North American Technician Excellence (NATE) is the nation's largest non-profit certification organization for heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration technicians. Headquartered in Arlington, VA, NATE is the certification organization governed, owned, operated, developed and supported by the entire HVAC/R industry.
NATE certification tests represent real world working knowledge of HVAC and HVAC/R systems. Developed by a committee of industry experts nationwide, the NATE exams represent HVAC/R topics pertinent to contractors, educators, manufacturers and utilties alike.
All of the NATE tests are rigorous, multiple-choice, knowledge-based tests and validate a technician's knowledge. NATE candidates may earn Installation and/or Service certification in one or more SPECIALTY areas, such as Air Conditioning, Air Distribution, Heat Pumps, Gas Furnaces, Light Commercial Refrigeration, Senior HVAC Efficiency Analyst, along with several others.
Certification is not just about contractor professionalism; it's about customer assurance. Contractors whose technicians are NATE certified can legitimately claim that their technicians have passed a stringent certification test national in scope, ultimately leading to increased customer service and business profitability.
Total Tech issues the Heat Pump Specialty test, as this gives the technician 4 certifications via taking 1 test…….the Air Conditioning Installation & Service and the Heat Pump Installation & Service. NATE offers 22 different Specialty certifications, of which we can give any, but at this time we only have a training class prepared for the Heat Pump Specialty test. The Total Tech NATE session consists of a 3 hour training session followed by testing. Testing is conducted via laptop computers (supplied), so results are known immediately. Students are NATE certified as long as they pass the Core and 1 Specialty test.
